Senior Electrical Estimator – Power & Renewables

Your responsibilities

As Senior Electrical Estimator, you will play a key role in preparing technically accurate and commercially competitive tenders for electrical infrastructure projects, including Design & Build HV substations and wind farms.

You will coordinate the complete estimating process—from reviewing tender documentation and preparing take-offs through to tender submission, post-tender meetings and the successful handover of secured projects to the construction team.

Your responsibilities will include:

• reviewing tender documentation, technical specifications and Employer’s Requirements;
• preparing detailed electrical estimates based on the defined project scope;
• compiling accurate material and labour take-offs;
• entering estimating information into the relevant estimating systems;
• reviewing estimating outputs for accuracy, completeness and commercial viability;
• assessing electrical requirements for Design & Build HV substations, wind farms and related infrastructure;
• coordinating the tender process with engineering, procurement, commercial and operational departments;
• ensuring that tenders are completed accurately and submitted within the required deadlines;
• preparing technical submissions, including inclusions, exclusions, clarifications and proposed programmes of work;
• managing quotation requests to suppliers and subcontractors;
• reviewing quotations for completeness, compliance and commercial suitability;
• managing multiple tenders and projects simultaneously;
• identifying potential technical, commercial and programme risks;
• advising the bid team on project risks, opportunities and appropriate solutions;
• attending tender reviews, clarification meetings and post-tender meetings;
• following up on submitted tenders and recording relevant client feedback;
• supporting negotiations and responding to technical or commercial tender queries;
• completing structured project handovers following successful bids;
• clearly presenting the estimate, scope of work, quotations, assumptions and commercial position to the construction team;
• contributing to the continual improvement of estimating processes and standards;
• supporting and developing junior members of the estimating team.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who have:

• a third-level qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Construction Economics, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline;
• ideally, at least five years’ experience within the construction or engineering industry;
• a minimum of two years’ experience in a similar Senior Electrical Estimator position;
• previous experience within the Power & Renewables sector;
• experience estimating electrical infrastructure projects, ideally including HV substations or wind farms;
• the ability to read and interpret electrical technical specifications, tender documentation and Employer’s Requirements;
• practical knowledge of electrical take-offs, estimating systems and tender preparation;
• experience coordinating input from engineering, procurement, commercial and operational teams;
• the ability to identify technical, commercial and programme risks at tender stage;
• strong analytical and commercial decision-making skills;
• excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy;
• the ability to manage multiple tenders and competing deadlines;
• strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint;
• excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder-management skills;
• the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team;
• experience supporting, developing or managing estimating team members;
• a proactive and solutions-focused approach;
• good command of English;
• legal eligibility to work in Ireland.

Previous experience estimating Design & Build HV substations, wind farms or other major electrical infrastructure projects will be a significant advantage.
